When I saw KikaNY Leather Goods on Dutch tv, I immediately looked up their website and designs. The leather bags and shoes designs by KikaNL are completely my style: Authentic, handmade, minimal, and of high quality.
KikaNY leather goods is founded in 2009 by Kika Vliegenthart and Sabine Spanjer. Kika and Sabine are both Dutch artists, living in NYC. Kika has traveled the world, works in the film industry and learned her skills at the workshop of the famous Barbara Shaum. Sabine fell in love with the art of leather crafting and joined Kika. A few years later Stefany Peña joined the studio in Brooklyn NY.
We use traditional techniques handed down by legendary leather smith Barbara Shaum. To keep the tradition alive, we work with machines custom-built for our studio and tools from old-school suppliers in France and the UK. Most of our resources come from Europe as well. We use high-end leather from Italy, Spain, Belgium and US-based Horween in Chicago. Our solid brass hardware is hand tooled in a family owned foundry in Europe
The Duffle Backpack #2 is one of my favourites, along with these Toe Loop with ankle strap sandals and the small market bag… But I can easily pick a few more! I love the straight lines, the look and feel of the genuine thick but soft leather. The black ones are on my wish-list, since I only wear black and grey. I just know by looking at the sandals, they’ll have a good fit and I can walk all day, all summer on them! I probably will newer take them off again… And the bags are so well designed. Minimal but definitely functional and great for city trips and for work… Next time when I’m in New York, I’ll definitely visit them!

Zomer musthave
Toen ik KikaNY Leather Goods op de Nederlandse tv zag, ben ik meteen op de website de ontwerpen gaan bekijken. De lederen tassen en schoenen van KikaNL zijn helemaal mijn stijl: Authentiek, handgemaakt, minimaal en van hoge kwaliteit.
KikaNY Lether Goods is in 2009 opgericht door Kika Vliegenthart en Sabine Spanjer. Kika en Sabine zijn beiden Nederlandse kunstenaars, die in NYC wonen. Kika heeft de wereld rond gereisd, werkt in de filmindustrie en leerde haar vaardigheden in de werkplaats van de beroemde Barbara Shaum. Sabine werd verliefd op de kunst van het leder bewerken en sloot zich bij Kika aan. Een paar jaar later kwam Stefany Peña bij de studio in Brooklyn NY.
We maken gebruik van traditionele technieken, overgeleverd door de legendarische leer smit Barbara Shaum. Om de traditie levend te houden, werken we met voor onze studio op maat gemaakte machines en old-school gereedschappen van leveranciers in Frankrijk en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. De meeste van onze middelen komen uit Europa. We maken gebruik van high-end leer uit Italië, Spanje, België en de VS gevestigde Horween in Chicago. Onze massief messing hardware is met de hand bewerkt in een familie gieterij in Europa
De Duffle Backpack #2 is een van mijn favorieten, samen met de Toe Loop sandaal met enkelbandje en de Small Market bag. Maar ik kan er makkelijk nog een paar meer uitkiezen! Ik houd van de strakke lijnen, de look en feel van het echte, dikke, maar zachte leer. De zwarte exemplaren staan op mijn verlanglijstje, omdat ik alleen zwart en grijs draag. Ik weet alleen al door naar de sandalen te kijken dat ze een goede pasvorm zullen hebben en ik er de hele dag, de hele zomer lang op kan lopen! Ik zal waarschijnlijk niet meer uit doen. En de tassen zijn zo goed ontworpen. Minimalistisch maar zeker functioneel en zeer geschikt voor stedentrips en voor het werk. Volgende keer als ik in New York, zal ik ze zeker bezoeken!
