Yesterday I visited the furniture fair in Köln: IMM Cologne.

Although I saw a lot of nice designs and furniture, the Lighting Fixtures

were a real eye-cather at this fair. Thats is a real trend for 2015!

I selected some of my favourites.

They all stand out in form, used material, combinations of materials, translucence or graphic lines.

And what do you think of my namesake iridescent glass ball IRIS ?

Verlichting armaturen die ik gespot heb op IMM Cologne 2015

Gisteren bezocht ik de meubelbeurs in Keulen: IMM COLOGNE

Hoewel ik veel mooie ontwerpen en meubels heb gezien, waren de verlichting armaturen toch

een echte eye-catcher op deze beurs. Ik heb een echte trend gespot voor 2015!

Een aantal van mijn favorieten zie je hier.

Ze zijn allemaal bijzonder van vorm, gebruikte materialen, combinaties van materialen, doorschijnendheid of in grafische lijnen.

En wat vind je van mijn naamgenoot de iriserende glazen bol IRIS?

Ik vind em mooi!

Love Design and the independent designers? Go to Crowdyhouse !

New platform for designers and design lovers:

Crowdy House.

If you are a design-lover and you embrace the independent professional designers with their own studios, but find it hard to find places where you can buy their designs….: I have the ultimate tip for you!

Crowdyhouse is a new platform, an online marketplace, where independent professional designers in fashion, furniture and products, can showcase their items and you as a design lover can order it. If there are enough buyers, the designer produces the items and sends it to you.

I love the concept of this because it’s so hard for the designers to get their products in shops. Most of the time the shops want a consistency in production and not the small number the designers produce.

So I really hope Crowdyhouse is here to stay. I took a look around and already saw some nice items. I hope that soon there will be a lot more designers that join.

Nieuw platform voor ontwerpers en liefhebbers van design:

Crowdy House.

Als je een design liefhebber bent en onafhankelijk ontwerpers met een eigen studio omarmt, maar niet goed kan vinden waar je hun ontwerpen kunt kopen: Dan heb ik heb de ultieme tip voor je!

Crowdyhouse is een nieuw platform, een soort online marktplaats, waar onafhankelijke professionele mode, meubel en product ontwerpers hun items kunnen presenteren en jij deze kunt bestellen. Als er genoeg kopers zijn, dan kan de ontwerper de items gaan produceren en stuurt deze ze naar je op.

Ik hou van dit soort initiatieven, omdat het zo moeilijk is voor de ontwerpers om hun producten in de winkels te verkopen. Meestal willen de winkels een constante productie en niet de kleine oplage waarin de ontwerpers vaak produceren.

Dus ik hoop echt Crowdyhouse het antwoord daarop is. Ik nam alvast een kijkje en zag gelijk al een aantal leuke items. Ik hoop dat dat er binnenkort veel meer zullen gaan worden en dat er nog veel meer ontwerpers mee gaan doen.

Winner of Wilsonart student chair competition at ICFF | Infinite by Jenny Trieu | blogtourNYC

BlogtourNYC sponsor Wilsonart presented the winner Infinite by Jenny Trieu and the runners-up from the Wilsonart student chair competition at ICFF.

Wilsonart, a leading manufacturer of decorative surfaces, is also sponsor of the “Wilsonart Challenges” student design scholarship program to foster the careers of emerging furniture designers in North America. In its 10th year, this competition challenges students at a designated design school to create a unique chair that uses Wilsonart Laminate to answer a specific design challenge.

Wilsonart selected the College of Architecture at the University of Houston to host the 2014 Challenge. The competition unfolds as a semester-long course, this year taught by Professor Jeff Feng and Grace Jeffers, design historian and materials specialist. The students were taught about laminate, its history, technical capabilities, current market trends and sustainability issues as well as the history of chairs as decorative art forms.

I found it very impressive that Wilsonart is challenging students to work with their product and also choose to present that at ICFF instead of only showing their product.

Wilsonart, een toonaangevende fabrikant van decoratieve materialen in Amerika, is ook sponsor van het “Wilsonart Challenges” studenten ontwerp scholarship programma om de carrières van opkomende meubelontwerpers in Noord-Amerika te bevorderen. Inmiddels al 10 jaar, daagt deze wedstrijd studenten van een uitgekozen design opleiding uit, om een unieke stoel te ontwerpen waarin gebruik gemaakt wordt van Wilsonart Laminaat .

Wilsonart selecteerde het College of Architecture aan de Universiteit van Houston om de 2014 Challenge organiseren. De wedstrijd besloeg een geheel semester, dit jaar gegeven door professor Jeff Feng en Grace Jeffers , design historicus en materialen specialist. De leerlingen kregen les over laminaat: de geschiedenis, technische mogelijkheden, de huidige marktontwikkelingen en duurzaamheidsaspecten, alsmede de geschiedenis van stoelen als decoratieve kunstvormen.

Ik vind het heel indrukwekkend dat Wilsonart studenten uitdaagt om met hun product te werken en er voor kiest om deze ontwerpen te presenteren op ICFF in plaats enkel hun product.

Dutch Interior designer Remy Meijers designs

16 beautiful hotel rooms for The Dylan Hotel Amsterdam.

Remy is one of my favorite interior designers. He is a master at combining pure materials and minimalistic shapes

with “just” a palette of grey’s and browns.

His designs feel very calm to me, very in balance.

For some of you it might be dull, but for me it’s luxury.

In these kind of interiors you just must work with high quality

and contrasting materials and very clear lines.

If you don’t, every flaw will draw all attention to it.

So it looks very simple, but in fact it’s not…

Interieur ontwerper Remy Meijers ontwerpt 16 prachtige hotelkamers

voor The Dylan Hotel Amsterdam.

Remy is een van mijn favoriete interieur ontwerpers.

Hij is een meester in het combineren van pure materialen en minimalistische vormen

met ‘slechts’ een palet van grijs en bruin tinten.

Zijn ontwerpen voelen zeer in balans en rustig voor mij.

Voor sommigen van jullie is het misschien saai,

maar voor mij is het pure luxe.

In dit soort interieurs moet je echt werken met een hoge kwaliteit en contrasterende materialen en met zeer duidelijke,

minimalistische lijnen.

Als je dat niet doet, zal elke fout alle aandacht

op zich weten te vestigen.

Dus het ziet er erg simpel, maar dat is het feite niet …

Bekijk de foto’s maar eens met deze informatie in je achterhoofd….

Ik ben nieuwsgierig wat je er van vindt.

Coco Mat luxury bed | sleep on nature | Skotel hotel Amsterdam

The other day I spent my weekend in Amsterdam

and stayed in the Coco-Mat room in the Skotel hotel.

I won this stay with a contest on Facebook by Cocomat Amsterdam

and was so happy I could stay in this wonderful room!

You know by now I love Design hotels and city trips.

I also love luxury beds so this was a double treat.

I’m a big fan of Coco-Mat. I sleep in a Coco-Mat bed myself at home

so I can tell from experience that it’s wonderful!

The fact that the bed is made out of natural materials

is a big plus for me.

I also love the bedding and materials they use for the furniture.

This particular room in one of the rooms of Skotel,

a hotel school in Amsterdam and The Hague.

As they say on the Skotel site:

The Skotel is the training and study hotel of Hotelschool The Hague. This special hotel gives you the possibility to stay in a different hotel concept every time you visit. The hotel rooms are decorated by various hotel chains, which gives every room their own style, feeling and experience.

Rooms
In Amsterdam the 20 hotel rooms of the Skotel are situated in the same building as the hotel school. You are welcomed by a dedicated group of hotel and hospitality management students in a completely refurbished building. It is situated in Amsterdam West, just a 15 minute tram ride away from the beautiful and historic centre of Amsterdam. When you feel like combining your stay with us with a dinner, you can ask our hotel management students to either reserve a table in our fine dining restaurant Le Début or enjoy a meal in Les Saveurs.

Each room has a private bathroom with shower, hairdryer and amenities. The rooms are equipped with WiFi, a flat screen TV and coffee/tea making facilities. All rooms are non smoking and are decorated by well-known hotel chains: Accor (Novotel), Starwood (Four Points by Sheraton & ALoft), WestCord, The Student Hotel, Okura, Center Parcs, Van de Wouw, Hampshire and Ramada Apollo. This enables you to stay in a Novotel room one time and the other time in a Okura room.

Laatst was ik een weekendje naar Amsterdam
en logeerde in de Coco-Mat kamer in het Skotel hotel.

Ik had deze overnachting gewonnen met een wedstrijd
op Facebook door Coco-Mat Amsterdam
en was zo blij dat ik in deze prachtige kamer mocht slapen!

Zoals je weet ben ik gek op Design Hotels en stedentrips.
En ik houd ook van luxe bedden, dus dit was een dubbele traktatie.
Ik ben een grote fan van Coco-Mat: ik slaap thuis ook in een bed van Coco-Mat!
Dus ik kan uit ervaring vertellen dat het geweldig is.

Het feit dat het bed is gemaakt van natuurlijke materialen is een groot pluspunt voor mij.
Ik houd ook van het beddengoed en de materialen die zij gebruiken voor de meubels.

Skotel is een opleiding en studie hotel van Hotelschool Den Haag.

De 20 hotelkamers zijn ingericht door verschillende hotelketens,
waardoor elke kamer een eigen stijl, gevoel en ervaring geeft.
Elke kamer heeft een eigen badkamer met douche,
haardroger en toiletartikelen en zijn uitgerust met WiFi,
een flatscreen-tv en koffie / thee faciliteiten.

Alle kamers zijn rookvrij en ingericht door bekende hotelketens :
Accor ( Novotel ) , Starwood ( Four Points by Sheraton & ALoft ) ,
WestCord , The Student Hotel , Okura , Center Parcs ,
