Every year an international team of color professionals gather together at AkzoNobel and Flexa, to do research and discuss the new color trends in paint for the next year : Colour Futures 2016 | CF16

For 2016 they pronounced Ochre Gold for the worldwide trend color. I’ve seen the gold and brass color at many design events and interior fairs this year, so I think it’s spot on! In the Colour Futures 2016 book are 4 themes presented: Heritage & Futures, Dark & Light, The Grid & Letting Go en Words & Pictures.

Flexa explains this Golden Yellow “Ochre Gold” color like this:

“We stand at the crossroads of two eras. An interesting point , where you have a beautiful view to bothsides: the importance of traditions on the one hand and the sense of modern innovations on the other. Never before was it so important to give different views and approaches a place . Duality, which is also reflected in the color Ochre-Gold, is therefore the underlying theme for the trends of 2016. The contradictions are involved in all underlying trends : Heritage & Futures, Dark & Light ,The Grid & Letting Go and Words & Pictures.”

This new color combines perfect with other colors. AkzoNobel and Flexa made some suggestions and examples and presented this is a very inspiring book and website.

Elk jaar komt een internationaal team van professionals van AkzoNobel en Flexa bij elkaar om onderzoek te doen naar de nieuwe ontwikkelingen op kleurgebied. Zij verzamelen alle informatie en discussiëren over de nieuwe kleur trends voor verf voor het komende jaar: Colour Futures 2016 | CF16

Voor 2016 is Oker Goud uitgesproken al de wereldwijde trend kleur. Ik heb het goud en messing al op vele Design evenementen en interieur beurzen van dit jaar gezien, dus wat mij bereft hebben ze het goed. In het boek staan 4 thema’s uitgewerkt: Heritage & Futures, Dark & Light, The Grid & Letting Go en Words & Pictures.

Flexa verklaart deze Goud Gele “Oker Goud” tint zo:

“We staan op het kruispunt van twee tijdperken. Een interessant punt, vanwaar je twee kanten op een mooi uitzicht hebt: het belang van tradities aan de ene kant en de zin van moderne innovaties aan de andere. Nooit eerder was het zo belangrijk om verschillende visies en benaderingen een plek te gunnen. Dualiteit, wat ook terug te vinden is in de kleur ‘Okergoud’, is dan ook het onderliggende thema voor de trends van 2016. De tegenstellingen spelen een rol in alle onderliggende trends: ‘Heritage & Futures’, ‘Dark & Light’, ‘The Grid & Letting Go’ en ‘Words & Pictures’.

Deze nieuwe kleur combineert perfect met andere kleuren. AkzoNobel en Flexa maakte een aantal suggesties en voorbeelden en presenteerde dit in een zeer inspirerend boek en op de bijbehorende website.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this new marble wallpaper by Piet Hein Eek for NLXL! What a great design! Marble is seen everywhere these days, so its very trendy, but it also has this minimal look. You can use it in many ways and in many interior styles. And now with this NLXL wallpaper you can create an instant minimal or even luxe interior. The white and black wallpaper is a print of an original marble floor of an old building in Amsterdam. For these kind of old buildings, the marble was cut in slabs and flipped to create a mirrored look. Very beautiful! NLXL and Piet created the roll just like this: “There’s one roll of marble wallpaper, another roll that’s the mirror image of it, and in marble they call this an open book. It becomes almost a kind of graphical illustration.”

Saturday the wallpaper will be lounged at Piet Hein Eek in Eindhoven NL during the famous Dutch Design Week DDW15 along with some other beautiful new wallpaper designs like the Black Brick, which is great too, the Silver Grey Brick and Burnt wood, [ love it!] and Blue Scrapwood Wallpapers.

Nieuw behang designs

Mijn hart sloeg over toen ik dit nieuwe marmer behang van Piet Hein Eek voor NLXL zag. Wat een geweldig design! Marmer is nu overal te zien, dus het is heel trendy, maar het heeft ook een heel minimalistische look. Je kunt het op heel veel manieren toepassen en in vele interieurstijlen. En nu met dit NLXL behang kun je super eenvoudig een groot gebaar maken en een minimalistich, strak of zelfs luxe interieur creëren. De witte en zwarte print is een afdruk van een originele marmeren vloer van een oud gebouw in Amsterdam. Voor dit soort van oude gebouwen werden de marmeren platen gesneden en “geflipt” om een gespiegelde look te creëren. Erg mooi! NLXL en Piet creëerde de behangrol volgends dit zelfde principe: “Je hebt de ene rol marmer behang, en de andere rol behang, die het spiegelbeeld daarvan is. In marmer noemen ze dit een “open boek”. Het wordt bijna een soort grafische illustratie. “

Zaterdag wordt het behang gelanceerd bij Piet Hein Eek in Eindhoven tijdens de beroemde Dutch Design Week | DDW15 , samen met nog een aantal andere mooie nieuwe behang ontwerpen, zoals de Black Brick, die ook prachtig is, en de Silver Grey Brick, het Burnt Wood, [love it!] en de Blue Scrapwood behangen.

Retail Theater| book review

If you work in retail as a salesperson, stylist, decorator, creative, shop owner or… you fill in, this [Dutch] book “Retail Theater” [Retail Theatre] and the corresponding “crash course” and master course is a must-have and must-do for you. The world in retail is changing so fast that if you don’t keep up with the newest developments in this area, you are probably missing a lot of opportunities to sell your products, make your clients happy and have a good running shop.

I read the book in the past few weeks and I find it very practical and inspiring. This 2nd book is a follow up on the 1st [Dutch] book “Prikkel de Koopknop” that was also written for retailers, marketing managers, manufacturers, stylist, merchandisers, designers, teachers and students. the first book was more theoretical and this follow-up is a perfect match. In the book you find lots of topics like designing a floorplan, shopping and inspiration zones, the senses, color, powerful presentations, and so on. Step by step you are taken by the hand. With lots of pictures and visuals is explained in a clear way the “why, what and how” to make your work and/or shop better.

With this book, you can follow some practical courses. You can choose the crash-course if you are already working in the field and know your background information and theory. If you are more a beginner or working in retail for many years and you need a refreshing view, than opt for the master-course.

The writers of the book, Carin Frijters and Femke Cuijpers are true experts in the field and working with heart and soul to learn you all they know. I joined one of the workshops and was really happy to have learned some new things. Carin and Femke are choosing the location carefully and per course an expert joins the team. After a short theoretic intro, you work on the assignment right away. So the course is very practical indeed and also up to date. The good thing is: you can apply the new learned info and skills right away.

Workshops en cursus

Als je in de detailhandel werkt als verkoper, stilist, decorateur, creatief, winkel eigenaar of …, vul zelf maar in, dan is dit boek “Retail Theater” en de bijbehorende “stoom cursus” en de masteropleiding een must-have en must-do voor je. De detailhandel wereld verandert zo snel dat als je niet zorgt dat je bij blijft en mee veranderd met de nieuwste ontwikkelingen op dit gebied, je veel kansen en mogelijkheden mist om je producten beter te verkopen, je klanten blij te maken en een goed lopende winkel te hebben.

Ik las in de afgelopen weken het boek door en ik vind het zeer praktisch en inspirerend. Dit 2e boek is een vervolg op de 1e boek “Prikkel de Koopknop” dat ook werd geschreven voor retailers, marketing managers, fabrikanten, stylist, merchandisers, ontwerpers, docenten en studenten. Het eerste boek was meer theoretisch en deze follow-up is een perfecte match. In dit boek vind je tal van onderwerpen, zoals het ontwerpen van een plattegrond/ vlekkenplan, winkelinspiratie zones, de zintuigen, kleur, krachtige presentaties, enzovoort. Stap voor stap wordt je bij de hand genomen om het proces te doorlopen. Met veel foto’s en visuals wordt op een duidelijke manier het “hoe, wat en waarom” uitgelegd hoe je werk en/of winkel kunt verbeteren.

Bij dit boek kun je een aantal bijbehorende praktische cursussen volgen. Je kunt kiezen voor de stoomcursus als je al in het veld werkzaam bent en wat achtergrond informatie en theorie kent. Als je nog een beginner bent of juist al vele jaren in de detailhandel werkt een verfrissende kijk kunt gebruiken, kies dan voor de master-course.

De schrijvers van het boek, Carin Frijters en Femke Cuijpers zijn echte experts in het veld en werken met hart en ziel om jou alles wat ze weten te leren. Ik bezocht een van de workshops en het was echt blij weer wat nieuwe dingen geleerd te hebben. Carin en Femkekiezen zorgvuldig de locatie uit en per cursus voegt een expert zich bij het team. Na een korte theoretische introductie, werk je zelfstandig en ook in groepjes terplekke aan de opdrachten. Dus de cursus is inderdaad zeer praktisch en ook zeer up to date. En het goede is: je kunt de nieuw geleerde informatie en vaardigheden meteen in de praktijk gaan toepassen.

While exploring all new items at Maison et Objet last September, I was delighted by all the novelties I spotted at the Ferm Living booth. A whole new look and feel, that spoke to me immediately.

The lines are more graphic and minimalistic and so are the colors. More industrial, with blue, greys, white, bordeaux and “rusty” ochre red.

Like Ferm Living says,

I can relate to that: I’m a strong believer of when you choose the items for your home consciously and with passion because it tell’s a story or means something to you, and not just because it’s trendy, eventually you will live in a happy home. Your home…

So pick and select the pieces that speak to you. I love to show you my selection. My most favorite is the minimalistic wooden wall decoration, but the round marble tables are great too. Tijdens het bekijken van alle nieuwe items op Maison et Objet afgelopen september, werd ik blij van alle nieuwigheden ik gespotte op de Ferm Living stand. Een gehele nieuwe look en feel, die mij gelijk pakte.

De lijnen zijn meer grafische en minimalistisch en dat zijn de kleuren ook. Meer industrieel, met blauw, grijs, wit, bordeaux en een “roestig” oker rood.

Zoals Ferm Living zegt,

“Het dagelijkse leven is vol met lijnen. In de verhalen die we delen, in oude sagen moderne levens anekdotes en de verhaal lijnen bepalen het verloop van het “plot”. Tijdlijnen helpen ons ons verleden en waar we vandaan komen begrijpen. Bij Ferm Living is onze ontwerp taal ook vol van lijnen – allemaal vertellen zij een duidelijk verhaal met de focus op eenvoudige esthetiek. Volg de tijdlijn naar het verleden en een rode draad in ontwerp principes , die helemaal terug gaat naar het midden van de eeuw en die nooit ophouden te inspireren, valt op.

In ons huis zijn alledaagse voorwerpen kleine kunstwerkjes. Zelfs de muren vertellen hun eigen verhaal door middel van subtiele, gedrukt behang of minimalistisch houten wand decoraties, balancerend op de rand tussen design en kunst. Deze collectie is een sterk en kleurrijk verhaal met eenvoudige en decoratieve lijnen. Vol met wellcrafed- ontwerpen en eerlijke materialen. Wij zijn voortdurend nieuwe lijnen aan het creërenen het bezig met vertellen van nieuwe verhalen.

Ik me daar helemaal in vinden en geloof echt dat wanneer je de items voor je huis bewust en met passie kiest, omdat ze een verhaal vertellen of dat ze iets voor jou betekenen en niet alleen omdat het trendy is, je uiteindelijk in een blij en vrolijk thuis woont. Namelijk JOUW huis…

Ferm Living speelde voor deze collectie met nieuwe en exclusieve afwerkingen zoals messing en marmer, met eenvoudige ontwerpen met heldere vormen en met warme stijlvolle contrasten en details.

Dus kies en selecteer die stukken die jouw aanspreken. Ik laat je graag mijn persoonlijke selectie zien. Mijn meest favoriete is momenteel het minimalistische houten wand decoratie outline, maar de ronde marmeren tafels zijn ook super mooi. Maar wat denk je van de plant box! Is dat niet ook een prachtig ontwerp? Die staan zeker om mijn verlanglijstje. Dit is maar een kleine selectie dus ga vooral even op de site kijken.

Did you spot the new Luxury trend already? I did at Maison et Objet last September. Co van der Horst, a Dutch Interior design shop has spotted this shift in the interior world too. They open this weekend a new concept ” Co Luxury ” and celebrate their 110th year anniversary.

Luxury you can find and define in many ways. It doesn’t always have to be expensive. As Luxury also is in craftsmanship, special moments, or spending time with friends.

But if you are looking for Luxurious interior design and materials, like Onix, Brass, silk, copper, mohair, pallisander, silver and so on, Co Luxury is the place to be. You can explore the novelties of luxury brands for interior like: Flexform, Maxalto, Promemoria, Giorgetti, Laurameroni, Ghyczy and Vonder, lighting fixtures by Porta Romana, CTO, Delta, Bert Frank and fabrics from Dedar, Jacaranda, And…: Couture and fashion house Hermès.

I’m definitely going to visit the showroom. I’m curious what they made of this new concept. As you know I’m more of a minimalist and would never overload an interior with lots of unnecessary items, but I do love good and fine materials, art and craftsmanship and also believe in buying items that last long and stay with you for a long time. So picking a luxury item that you really enjoy can fit a minimalist too.

Luxe kun je op vele manieren vinden en definiëren. Het hoeft niet altijd duur te zijn. Zo zit luxe ook in vakmanschap, speciale momenten, of tijd doorbrengen met vrienden.

Maar als je op zoek bent naar luxe interieurs en materialen, zoals Onix, messing, zijde, koper, mohair, pallisander, zilver en ga zo maar door, dan is Co Luxury de place to be. Je kunt er de laatste nieuwigheden van luxe interieur merken zien zoals van: Flexform, Maxalto, Promemoria, Giorgetti, Laurameroni, Ghyczy en Vonder, verlichtingsarmaturen van oa Porta Romana, CTO, Delta, Bert Frank en stoffen van Dedar, Jacaranda of zelfs van Couture en mode huis Hermès.

Ik ben zeker van plan om een kijkje te gaan nemen. Ik ben benieuwd wat ze gemaakt hebben van dit nieuwe concept. Zoals je weet dat ik ben meer van een minimalistisch interieur en zou nooit een interieur overladen met veel onnodige items, maar ik hou wel van goede en mooie materialen, kunst en vakmanschap en geloof ook in het kopen van producten die lang meegaan en voor een lange tijd bij je blijven. Dus het kiezen van een luxe-item waarvan je echt kunt genieten is zeker ook een minimalistische mogelijk!
