Black is the new black…
I spotted this black table styling trend last summer in Copenhagen  [ see my instagram picture below] and I’m thrilled: I’m going to style my dining table like this for Xmas.

So no white Christmas for me! Last year I also went of a lot of black, but this year I’ll go for all black… It looks great with al the food. Just like the paintings of the Dutch Masters I love so much, but I want a very NOW feeling mixed with this golden age thing.
That’s where the styling elements of Functionals come in: thats just the right touch.


If you want to create this style at your home than you can certainly find some great items at Functionals! 
For instance the beautiful black aluminum tea light – candle holder Bonsai 1 + 5, or the Paxton candle holder. But also the Bolder that you can use as a vase and wine cooler. And what do you think of the dark glass Bowl? Combine this with a black tablecloth and black diner plates and you’re all set!

DE kerst trend voor 2014:

Zwart is het nieuwe zwart …

Ik spotte deze zwarte tafel styling trend afgelopen zomer al in Kopenhagen en ik ben blij: ik ga mijn eettafel voor de kerst helemaal in het zwart stylen. Dus  dit jaar geen witte kerst voor mij! Vorig jaar ging ik ook van veel zwart, maar dit jaar ga ik voor alles in zwart … Het ziet er geweldig uit met al het eten voor het Kerst diner. Net als de schilderijen van de Nederlandse Meesters waar ik zo van houd, maar ik wil dit Gouden Eeuw sfeertje het wel mengen een NU gevoel.
Dat is waar de styling elementen van Functionals goed van pas komen: dat is precies de juiste touch.

Als je wilt deze stijl zelf ook wilt creëren bij jou thuis, dan kun je zeker een aantal goede items bij Functionals vinden!

Bijvoorbeeld die mooie zwarte aluminium thee licht – kaars-houders Bonsai 1 + 5, of de Paxton kandelaar. Maar ook de Bolder die je kunt gebruiken als een vaas en als wijnkoeler. En wat denk je van de donkere glazen Bowl? Combineer dit met een zwarte tafelkleed en zwarte borden en je bent klaar!

Impression DDW graduation show

Since Iris is out of town this week I, Janneke van de Haterd have the honor
of sharing one of my favorite events with you.

I love the Dutch Design Week and especially the graduation show.
I’ve been going to them for the last ten years and always get so inspired!
Especially by meeting the (young) designers and getting to share and feel their enthusiasm.
 This year; as always, there was so much to see and so much diversity in subjects and design.
 Some design shown are just gorgeous or smart on the first sight,
for some you need to read the text or talk to the designer to understand the great ideas.
 I have picked a few of my favorites to share with you;

Bacteria  & light
I really loved the light of Teresa van Dongen. This light operates on artificial seawater with bioluminescent micro organisms that give light as it comes in contact with oxygen. So when you give the lamp a gentle push it shows a beautiful blue light that gave me a fairytale-feeling.

Combining music, light & scent
According to Joris music is more then just sound. Music is an experience. The beautiful transparent gramophone speaker not nobly shows the beat of the music; is produces light, couloir and scent in the style of the selected tunes. Just imagine your coffee-time tunes with the smell of fresh brewed coffee and warm comforting lights…

I loved the projects of Desiree Wevers. She combined a social project with old crafts and with beautiful screens as a result. For this project (Knot) she teamed up with a group of Turkish ladies after she heard about isolation of immigrants. She learned all about their old crafts and their knowledge and developed new design and new innovative applications for this craftwork.

Perhaps you have seen this before; but i just could not leave it out :-). Anke Verstappen developed a special playing mat for children that were born blind. These children often fall behind in their development in their first few years and this mat helps them to stimulate their senses, and looks beautiful as a nice bonus.

Ofcourse there is also still attention for awareness. The quality of our tap water is really good and thousand times less expensive (as well as beter for our environment). Maud van Deursen made 4 carafes that help us to be aware of how special tap water is. The  shapes of the carafes reflect dutch water towers and emphasize the flow of water in a different way.

met een super leuke popup shop! 
De groene letters op het Brooklyn Tins behang door Mercy voor NLXL zijn fantastisch! 

Ook mooi vind ik de houten, deels verbrande kruk en de glazen variant. 

 Voor op mijn verlanglijstje :-)
