A few weeks ago I had the pleasure to be at the Vitra Showroom in Amsterdam,
while Meet the Blogger organised the Masterclass Photography and Styling
given by Holly of Avenue Lifestyle and Wendy of Beeldsteil.

To be in this inspirational building, where Vitra showcase their Design furniture by “big name” designers like Ray and Charles Eames, Alexander Girard, Hella Jongerius, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec was a real pleasure.

It’s no secret I’m a big fan of Vitra. As an interior designer I advise these design a lot. And why? Because they blend in so well. I love the vision of ” Collage Living”.

And besides that, a piece of design with the Vitra sign on it, is always a good investment. Throughout the years the design items have proved themselves as Design Classics.

Like the panton chair by Verner Panton. After years of production development, the Panton chair was finally produced in 1967. But in 1970 they had to stop due to material failure. Time hasn’t stand still since then and nowadays the material development has made big progress and is the Panton Chair in full production. There even is a little panton chair for the kids and an outdoor version.

The chair itself is one of the most iconographic Design chairs, and used by many photographers.

Vitra has made a limited special color version: the “Summer Green” version. It’s available only until this summer. This green one blends in very well with other green shades and gives a joyful spirit to your interior or outdoors. Its available at some selected dealers. More info at VITRA

So, the students at the masterclass by Meet the Blogger were “spoiled” by so many good design items and such a great space to learn about Photograpy and Styling by two master teachers.

Nevertheless they had to work hard. They were split-up in little groups, and work together to make their own styled photo. From what I saw, they did very well!

Masterclass Photography and Styling +Panton Chair special edition

Een paar weken geleden was ik bij Vitra’s showroom in Amsterdam, tijdens het door Meet the Blogger organiseerde Masterclass Fotografie en Styling. Deze werd gegeven door Holly van Avenue Lifestyle en Wendy van Beeldsteil.

Heerlijk om in dit inspirerende gebouw te zijn, waar Vitra hun design meubels van “grote namen” ontwerpers als Ray en Charles Eames, Alexander Girard, Hella Jongerius, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec presenteert.

Het is geen geheim dat ik een grote fan van Vitra ben. Als interieurontwerper adviseer ik vaak deze ontwerpen. En waarom? Omdat ze zo goed passen in vele stijlen en sferen.

Ik houd van de visie van “Collage Wonen”.

En naast dat, een meubelstuk met het echte Vitra logo er op is altijd een goede investering.

Door de jaren hebben de Design items zich wel bewezen als Design Klassiekers.

Net als de Panton Chair van Verner Panton. Na jaren van productie en materiaal ontwikkeling werd de Panton stoel eindelijk geproduceerd in 1967. Maar in 1970 moesten ze stoppen door problemen met het materiaal: het brak. De tijd heeft niet stil gestaan sindsdien en tegenwoordig heeft de materiaal ontwikkeling grote vooruitgang geboekt en is de Panton Chair in volle productie.

Er is zelfs een mini Panton Chair voor kinderen en een outdoor versie.

De stoel zelf is een van de meest iconografische Design stoelen en door vele fotografen gefotografeerd.

Vitra heeft in beperkte oplage een speciale kleur versie gemaakt: De “Summer Green” versie. Deze is beschikbaar tot deze zomer. Het groen combineert heel goed met andere groen tinten en geeft een vrolijke noot aan het interieur of buiten in de tuin. Deze special is verkrijgbaar bij een aantal geselecteerde dealers.

Dus, de studenten werden tijdens de masterclass van Meet the Blogger super “verwend” door zoveel mooie Design items en de fantastische ruimte om van alles te leren over fotografie en styling van de twee top docenten.

Toch moesten ze hard werken.

Ze werden opgedeeld in kleine groepen om samen te werken

en hun eigen ge-stylde foto’s te maken.

Van wat ik zag, deden ze het erg goed!

Don’t we all want to know, how they work?

I for sure do…

I’m always interested in the person behind the design,
the story, the concept, the use of material, the colors…

As long as I can remember I’m called super curious
and always asking for the why,

how and what… The cool thing about that is that

I feel connected with the designer and the designs.

It can also be disappointing,

when I discover that there is no story….

But I must say, when that happens,

most of the time I wasn’t attracted to the product anyway…

So, you can imagine I wanted to visit this exhibition no matter what.

15 Designers of the ” New generation Dutch Designers”

show their work until 17th May 2015

at the Stedelijk Museum in Den Bosch NL.

The Expo curated by Tatjana Quax and Inga Powilleit

is an extension of the book “How We Work”

which was presented last DDW in Eindhoven.

These 15 designers have one common questions that the are asking:

“What are we to do with the surplus of things, objects and design knickknacks? Renewal arises from taking account. These fifteen designers look around them and ask themselves: How can things be done differently? Material, technique and the design process are given new meaning.”

Shown is the work proces of one chosen object and how it is made.

Tentoonstelling

Nieuw Nederlands Design

Willen we niet allemaal weten, hoe ze werken?

Ik zeker weten!

Ik ben altijd geïnteresseerd in de mens achter het ontwerp,
het verhaal, het concept, het gebruik van materiaal, de kleuren …
Zolang ik me kan herinneren ben ik super nieuwsgierig en vraag altijd naar het waarom,
hoe en wat … Het leuke is, dat ik me dan gelijk
verbonden voel met de ontwerper en zijn / haar werk.

Het kan ook wel eens teleurstellend zijn, als ik ontdek dat er geen verhaal is….

Maar ik moet zeggen, als dat gebeurt,
was ik eigenlijk al niet echt aangetrokken tot het product …

Ik voel dat toch aan.

Dus, je kunt je wel voorstellen dat ik deze tentoonstelling MOEST gaan zien.

15 “Nieuwe generatie Nederlandse ontwerpers”
tonen hun werk tot 17 mei 2015 in het Stedelijk Museum in Den Bosch.
De Expo is samengesteld door

Tatjana Quax en Inga Powilleit als aanvulling op het boek “How We Work “,
dat werd gepresenteerd tijdens afgelopen DDW in Eindhoven.

Deze 15 ontwerpers hebben ’n gemeenschappelijke vraag:

“Wat doen we met de overdaad aan spullen, objecten en designprullaria? Materiaal, techniek en het ontwerpproces worden herijkt. Vernieuwing ontstaat door stil te staan. Deze vijftien designers kijken om zich heen en vragen zich af: ‘hoe kan het anders?’.”

Getoond wordt het proces van één gekozen object per ontwerper en hoe het wordt gemaakt.

I saw this new interior gem, the Botanic Storage unit by Kristina Dam Studio,

at Maison et Objet Paris 2015

I love this new approach to store and style your greens.

Plants are a must-have in your interior. The urban jungle is a hot topic!

Besides that plants look good in your home, they are also very healthy and relaxing according to a lot of research.

Christina Dam designed this multifunctional styling item, and as a graphic design she also made some beautiful prints and sculptures.

Maison et Objet Paris 2015

Ik zag dit nieuwe interieur juweeltje, een botanische storage unit van Kristina Dam Studio,

bij Maison et Objet 2015 in Parijs.

Leuk, deze nieuwe presentatie en styling van planten.

Planten zijn een must-have in je interieur. De Urban Jungle is een hot topic!

Naast dat planten er gewoon mooi uitzien in een interieur, ze zijn volgens onderzoek ook eens heel gezond en zorgen ze voor ontspanning.

Christina Dam ontwierp dit multifunctionele styling item

en als grafisch ontwerp maakte ze ook een aantal prachtige prints en sculpturen.

Studio Ilse | Ilse Crawford ’s new cork collection “Sinnerlig Collection” for IKEA

I can’t wait until august 2015, when the new Cork collection Sinnerlig Collection

by Ilse Crawford for IKEA will be launched..

Studio Ilse, Ikea and the Portuguese cork supplier worked closely together

to create this new,over 30 pieces interior furniture collection

with a table, stools, a daybed [which I absolutely adore and really really really must have…]

and lighting and accessories like vessels and tabletop pieces all made from natural materials.

These pieces can be categorised in 3 groups: dining, working and lounging.

“Cork is sustainable, durable, a thermal insulator and an acoustic softener. It is waterproof and easy to clean. Above all, it feels good to touch. It is a beautiful, warm material that feels natural and precious at the same time. “

“Each group has a piece of furniture at its centre – the trestle table, dining table and the daybed, respectively. Although the collection works neatly in these configurations everything has been developed so as not to be prescriptive for just one function or setting.This is a reflection on the changing way we live today where fluid space and flexible function of the furniture we live with is a vital part of feeling comfortable at home. So the trestle table could be a desk by day and dining table by night, benches could be consoles and stools can be side tables. The key word here is “could” not “should”; it’s up to you to decide how you wish to live with these things and how they fit into your life.”

Ik kan niet wachten tot het augustus 2015 is…

Dan wordt de nieuwe Cork collectie “Sinnerlig Collection”

van Ilse Crawford voor IKEA gelanceerd …..

Studio Ilse, Ikea en de Portugese kurk leverancier hebben nauw samengewerkt
om deze nieuwe, uitmeer dan 30 stuks bestaande interieur/ meubelcollectie te creëren.

De collectie bestaat uit oa een tafel, krukjes, een ligbed
[waar ik helemaal voor ben gevallen en écht, écht moet hebben …]
plus verlichting en accessoires zoals schalen/vazen en tafeldecoratie stukken,
allemaal gemaakt van natuurlijke materialen.
Deze stukken kunnen worden onderverdeeld in 3 groepen:
dineren, werken en loungen.

“Kurk is duurzaam, bestendig, isolerend en werkt akoestisch verzachtend. Het is waterdicht en gemakkelijk schoon te maken. Boven alles voelt het prettig om aan te raken. Het is een mooi, warm materiaal dat natuurlijk en tegelijkertijd dierbaar voelt.”

“Elke groep heeft een meubel dat centraal staat: – de schragen tafel, de eettafel en het ligbed. Hoewel de collectie in deze context is uitgewerkt, is alles zo ontwikkeld dat het niet voor slechts één functie of omgeving toepasbaar is. Dit is een reflectie op de veranderende manier waarop we vandaag de dag leven: in een veranderende ruimte en met flexibele functies van de meubels. Deze meubels zijn een belangrijk onderdeel onderdeel om ons comfortabel en thuis te voelen. Dus de schragen-tafel kan overdag een bureau zijn en ’s avonds een eettafel, de bankjes kunnen consoles zijn en krukken bijzettafels. Het sleutelwoord hier is “kan” niet “moet” ……Het is aan jou om te beslissen hoe je wenst te leven met deze dingen en hoe ze in je leven passen”

Begrijp je nu waarom ik niet kan wachten?

Last weekend I was in Paris at Maison et Objet

which celebrates it’s 25th birthday this year,

and a visit to the Vitra booth topped my list.

They showcased the renewed interior decoration and accessories collection called

“Home Complements”.

A well-suited name I think.

For the new Home Complements collection Vitra used some already existing,

but not yet applied sources, and also presented the ABC collection by Artek,

like they already did with the furniture designs.

This new Home Complements collection consists of series of textiles,

like cushions, wool blankets, paper napkins,

printed textile decor panels, zip pouches and bags.

Also decorative objects and small furniture, like the wooden dolls,

classic trays, clocks, small stools, notebooks

and even coffee mugs are part of the assortment.

Vitra chose to re-introduce some gems they already had in their hands…

The designs of Alexander Girard.

Although the designs and dessins are not new,

they fit in very well in this spirit of times.

I spoke to Alexander Kori Girard,

who now looks after his grandfathers’ legacy and started the Girard studio.

He tells me that he and his family work very close together

with Vitra in selecting the designs, prints, colors and products from Alexander Girard.

“Vitra respects the designs” he says. “They always do.”

For selecting the colors, Kori doesn’t have to do any further research: “

I think he has combined every two colors in this world that work well together”

he tells me smiling ”… I studied the collection very well.”

Kori, who went to the School of Graphic Arts in New York

and is a painter himself, sees to it that the dessins

and products are a good match.

I think Kori and Vitra have done a good job, don’t you?

It’s a very nice addition to the existing collection small home products.

And as far as I could see many people agree with me:

it was very busy at the booth.

Like Vitra says:

“Vitra Home Complements is a collection of design objects, accessories and textiles that creates that special ambiance. This is about private living spaces, not a uniform design world.”

And on my wish list are:

the black and white striped wool blanket,

the decorative panels, the golden house bird, the Corniches,

of course the miniature furniture collection,

the coffee mug with the golden heart,

the zip pouches… and…..and…..

I guess I love al the items :-)
